What we keep, why, and how to make us stop.
Draft for review. This wording has not been approved yet and may change before it does.
The short version
You can read every page without telling us anything. If you give us your email address, we use it for what you asked for and nothing else, we never sell it or pass it to a broker or fund manager, and you can stop every email in one click.
What we keep
- Your email address, if you join the weekly note or sign in — with a record of what you agreed to and when.
- The plans you save and what you tell us you bought, with the published figures they were worked out from, so My money can show them to you. Archiving a plan or ending a holding takes it off My money; the record stays. [How a reader has a plan or holding deleted to be confirmed.]
- A sign-in cookie, only if you sign in. It lasts 14 days and holds nothing but a random session number.
- Click-throughs to a broker or fund manager: which firm, which page you came from, and a salted hash of your IP address — enough to spot a script, not enough to identify you.
- The guide’s answers stay in your own browser and are cleared when you close the tab. They reach us only when you save a plan.
Your email address
We ask for it to sign you in, and for the weekly note: one email on Mondays about what moved in Uganda’s government securities. Signing in for the first time joins it. The email we send has one link and a six-digit code, either of which confirms your address and signs you in; there is no password. Nothing else is sent until you confirm, and we record what you agreed to and when. We do not sell, rent or pass your address to a broker or a fund manager. Every message has a one-click unsubscribe that needs no account and no reason.
What we do not do
No advertising, no tracking pixels and no analytics script on the pages. We do not sell, rent or share your address, and we do not learn what you do on a broker’s site after you leave ours.
Opening an account through the guide
This step is not switched on yet. When it is, it will ask for your details, a copy of your ID and a phone number confirmed on WhatsApp, so the account can be opened by the fund manager or agent you choose. The ID would be stored encrypted, read only by the staff who forward it, and deleted as soon as it is no longer needed. [Retention period and legal basis to be confirmed before launch.]
Who else handles your data
Our email is sent through Resend, which delivers it for us and tells us when a message bounces. Our servers are run by a hosting provider. [Provider and location to be confirmed.]
Your choices
Unsubscribe from any email in one click. A signed-in reader can change what we send from preferences. To see or delete what we hold about you, write to the address below and we will reply within 30 days. [Process to be confirmed under Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019.]
